The Magic of Ballet: From Cinderella to Contemporary Choreography
Do you dream of a photo shoot that captures the grace of dance and becomes a real fairy tale? The story of our shoot with Sofia Pechenkina, a talented student of the Boris Eifman Dance Academy, proves that anything is possible.
We have worked with Sofia and her mother Victoria multiple times, creating different images. From a touching Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty in an old mansion to a passionate Carmen and an ethereal Sylphide. Each project is a unique story, brought to life through dance, light, and emotion.
Why is Ballet Photography Magic?
Ballet is more than just movement. It is the highest form of body control and emotional expression. Our task is to capture those moments: the perfect line, the flowing fabric of a tutu, a sincere smile, or a deep look full of drama.
In one of our shoots, we used the possibilities of a cyclorama — a perfectly smooth backdrop that removes all distractions, leaving the viewer with only the pure beauty of the dancer’s lines and emotions. This allows us to create images you could look at forever.
But the most important thing in any shoot is emotion and connection. For example, during our joint photo session with Sofia and her mother Victoria, the studio was filled not just with dance, but with a true dialogue between two close people. A playful competition as Carmen would give way to a tender duet of fairies, and the mother’s support and care became the best “prop” for the warmest and most sincere shots.
Recognition and Publications
It’s especially rewarding that our work with Sofia has received high praise from the professional community. The photos have received multiple acceptances and won a Silver Medal at the IAAP 2025 artistic photography competition in Romania. Additionally, photographs from our shoots have been published in Holly Way and Top Posters magazines. This proves once again that high-quality ballet photography is in demand and interesting not just as a personal memory, but as an art form.
