Preparation for Photoshoot in Yekaterinburg: 8 Key Steps to Perfect Shots  

1. Hair: The Basis of a Neat Look

The hair of all participants should be clean. I recommend getting hair color done in advance so there are no visible roots. Natural shades look better in photos than radical colors. Remember, even gray hair can be luxurious, like that of the famous model Tatyana Neklyudova!

• I advise girls with long hair to braid it into pigtails overnight. Hair will be voluminous and wavy, the curls will adorn the look.   

2. Face and Makeup: Natural Beauty

Skin condition primarily depends on nutrition. A week before the photoshoot in Yekaterinburg, reduce spicy and fried foods in your diet. Drink more water.

• Skincare: A couple of days before, increase skin hydration with sprays or trusted masks. Do not experiment with new products! To avoid allergic reactions, use only familiar moisturizing masks.
• Makeup: For a studio shoot or photo walk, light matte makeup works well. Match it to the tone of your clothing.
• Important for Fine Art: This genre requires maximum naturalness. Makeup for a Fine Art photoshoot is practically not used (just a touch of mascara maybe). I carefully retouch any skin imperfections during processing while preserving its natural texture. Using foundation loses skin texture, resulting in a plastic, doll-like face, and the artistry and reality of the image disappear. For combined shoots, you can do light makeup after the Fine Art portrait part. 

3. Hands and Manicure: An Important Portrait Detail

Hands, like the face, are a key element of a good portrait. For Fine Art shoots, the absence of nail polish is very important. Look at the hands of beautiful women in old master paintings. You won’t see long nails painted in bright colors.

Hands with short-cut nails, covered with at most clear polish, will look beautiful and organic. Thematic photoshoots require appropriate manicure. No photographer will undertake to fix the length and color of nails in photos.

Important: Check children’s nails! Be sure to trim them, and for girls, remove any leftover polish (they often paint their nails themselves without mom knowing).

4. Shoes and Feet

Shoes should match the look. For formal looks, choose flesh-colored, non-shiny tights. If you wear stockings, ensure they are from the same pair — even if the color seems identical, legs can reflect light differently under studio lighting.

For a cozy home-style shoot in pajamas or sweaters, socks or bare feet (with a neat pedicure) are great. Socks and children’s tights should also match the clothing color.

5. Underwear

  The universal choice is flesh-colored, smooth-textured underwear with removable straps. It won’t show through light clothing. For children, also choose underwear in a tone matching the outfit.  

6. Clothing for the Photoshoot: Harmony and Style

Your looks should complement each other and match the location (a studio in Yekaterinburg, nature, the city).

• Rule of three colors: Avoid being too busy. A harmonious look contains no more than 3 main colors.
• Coordination: Ensure the clothing styles of all participants work together (e.g., a woman’s evening dress doesn’t match others in jeans).
• Bring options: If unsure, bring several clothing options to the shoot.

7. Accessories

  Hair clips, wreaths, jewelry should be appropriate. Bright hair ties can ruin a child’s delicate pastel image. All details should work towards the overall concept.  

8. Good Mood — The Main Key!

  The most important point! Create a positive mood for yourself and your family. Even if something doesn’t go as planned, don’t worry. All recommendations are just advice. With a great mood, the photoshoot will go smoothly, and the shots will be lively and sincere.
