For the first time I photographed Sofia Pechenkina, a student of the Boris Eifman Dance Academy a year ago. This year’s meeting in April showed how her skills have grown, how well this delicate, thin, fragile girl dances.
The Dance Academy teaches both classical ballet and modern choreography. Classical dance serves as a basis for the study of folk stage dance, among other things. The Academy’s students become universal dancers.
I admired how wonderfully a little ballerina in pointe shoes dances the Russian dance. In a blue sarafan and a kokoshnik, Sonechka reminded me of an elegant porcelain figurine from Gzhel. (Gzhel is a Russian style of blue and white ceramic.)
And also, I found out that Sofia recently passed the dance exam for the highest score. I wish Sofia success in her studies, in her work, and I thank Sofia and her mother for this shoot.
