The Lake Seliger
Seliger Lake is located near the ancient town of Ostashkov, Tver region.
The great Russian River Volga originates in these places, a few dozen kilometers from Ostashkov. It is just a small stream here … In general, three great rivers originate in the Tver Region: the Volga, the Dnieper and the Western Dvina. Can you imagine what a story is here, what an energy!
There is clean water and very beautiful nature. Seliger is not even a lake, but several interconnected lakes, which are called “ples”. 110 rivers flow into Seliger, and only one flows out, Selizharovka, a tributary of the Volga.
Here, on the island of Stolobny, is situated Nilov monastery, founded in the 16th century.
The monastery was one of the most revered in Russia, a place of pilgrimage.
Seliger met us with rain and wind. But soon, the rain stopped, we managed to walk, and the evening gave us a wonderful bright sunset.
I want to share this beauty… and we will walk around the monastery next time…
