Today I am sharing new photos from the shooting of Sofia Pechenkina, a student of the Boris Eifman Ballet Academy.
Carmen Suite is a one—act ballet by cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso, staged in 1967 based on the opera Carmen of Georges Bizet, orchestrated specifically for this performance by composer Rodion Shchedrin. The the role of Carmensita was the main in the life of Maya Plisetskaya. I admire by this great ballerina.
We have been planning the Carmen project for a long time, carefully preparing for this photography.
Carmen is a legend, a symbol of passion and freedom. The elements such as a red flower, a black top and a bright red skirt added mood and symbolism to the image in our photo performance. Sofia’s mom, Victoria, chose scarlet chiffon, and Sofia’s grandmother sewed two luxurious skirts.
We turned on Bizet’s music, and the two “gypsies” started dancing. The movement of bright red waves, the duel of skirts, added additional energy and dynamism to our performance. It was a lot of fun, I even danced habanera, taking pictures. I think that joint training, creativity of mother and daughter, strengthen their friendship, decorate everyday life.
Then Sophia danced alone. The young fragile ballerina managed to create an image of Carmensita with amazing elegance, grace, and energy.
A photo shoot is not only an opportunity to capture a moment, but also an opportunity to create an image and convey the mood.
We decided to repeat the photo session in the image of Carmen once again, in a studio with a cyclorama, most likely in the fall, in St. Petersburg. And these luxurious skirts are now part of my collection for photography
